The Story Behind the Lens

“Abayomi,” derived from the middle name given to Sekani Broughton by his mother, translates to “born to bring joy”—a purpose he carries into every visual story he tells.

Originally from St. Ann, Jamaica, Sekani began his creative journey as a lifestyle photographer, developing a keen eye for narrative and composition. His passion for storytelling has since evolved into a career as a director and cinematographer, where he crafts dynamic visuals that blend intimacy with intention.

Now based between Baltimore and New York City, Sekani’s signature “contrastic” style—marked by bold colors and striking juxtapositions—defines his aesthetic across both photography and film. Whether capturing raw moments or directing cinematic narratives, his work is always about creating meaningful, authentic connections.
